Bachelor in Fashion Business Management

Fashion industry now requires workforce that possesses a variety of managerial skills to administer a business from start-up stage to a more developed business model. Students obtain an understanding of textiles, garment construction, quality criteria and apparel merchandising. They also assimilate how to apply marketing, accounting, financial and other business concepts necessary for the decision-making they will encounter in their future careers.

The 4 year program creates the complete management figure, a proficient person in fashion, someone who is ready to work within all realms of the industry. At the end of the program students demonstrate the knowledge and preparation they need to mature into great creative managers or even start their own label.

The 126 credit curriculum is designed to equip students with a broad based exposure to all aspects of Fashion Business Management while focusing on specific concentration areas for rewarding careers in fashion businesses and industries. The diverse range of courses offered in the program introduces students to a wide range of expertise and knowledge in General Education, Fashion Business Management functional areas and Fashion Business Management electives. 33 credits in General Education courses for Personal & Professional development, competence in Fashion Business Management is achieved through the study of 54 credit core courses, and competence in a specific business area is achieved through the study of 21 credit concentration courses. The 15 credit elective courses and 3 credits for internship are designed to broaden students’ knowledge and perspective of Fashion Business Management education beyond their field of concentrations.

Learning and Teaching Strategy

The Bachelor Program in Fashion Business Management is founded on the principles that the most effective educational experience combines structured teaching and personal development.

The Program is based upon a series of teaching methods that include lectures, open discussions, projects, teamwork and the analyzing of case studies in-order to push creativity in the definition of one’s own identity and professional progression. Courses will be evaluated on a variety of output including: verbal, written, digital, visual presentations as well as more in depth technical business plans and strategies.

Assignments will be designed to help students develop knowledge, skills and confidence to reach their full potential.

Courses will be evaluated on a variety of output including: verbal, written, digital, visual presentations as well as more in depth technical presentations such as prototyping ad mock ups. Assignments will be designed to help students develop knowledge, skills and confidence to reach their full potential. A ‘feed forward’ on assessment tasks approach will be adopted to help students improve on their current level of performance for future assessments. Each student will be assigned an advisor who will mentor and monitor student’s progress.

Concentrations

Purpose of the concentration is to provide the requirements of fashion industry for specialized professionals who still have an overall vision and are able to interact and communicate clearly. The program is designed to offer the students the chance to make choices consciously, being tutored in respect of their needs, dreams and skills.

The concentration courses are aimed at individuals wanting to develop entrepreneurial careers and/or for those that would like to work in the immense non-designer categories within the fashion trade.

CFD offers two concentration tracks students can choose from. Offering of concentrations will be initiated in a gradual manner. Two Concentrations will be offered on cohort basis (the choice of majority of students). The students will be required to choose the area of concentration in the 4th semester.

1. Fashion Promotion

Fashion Promotion students are molded to generate concepts for new and unique campaigns through courses such as fashion marketing and advertising. Students develop an understanding of fashion promotion channels across a variety of media to conceptualize creative campaigns for a fashion brand.

  • Respond to emerging developments in media and communication in practice of fashion
  • Evaluate different techniques applicable in creating the fashion image, promotions, advertising, print, visual merchandising, retail, fashion media, branding events, PR, trend prediction and forecasting.
  • Analyze trends in fashion styling, photography and journalism
  • Demonstrate leadership skills relevant to creative direction of fashion media.

2. Fashion Retail Management

The Fashion Retail Management course helps students understand the process of creating and sustaining brand values; creating unforgettable buying experiences and driving a brand-loyal customer base.

Students will become proficient in analyzing retail sales data, and further develop expertise in marketing, human resources, communication and the integration of IT, all of which are fundamental to a professional in the fashion industry.
