The College of Fashion and Design under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Hend Al Qassimi, organized an enthralling Fashion show called “Arabian Nights” on their premises at Business Bay on 20th December 2017. The aim of the fashion show was to showcase the story of traditional costumes of the Arabian Peninsula, its developments, and influences from civilizations around the region.
The show was conceptualized by Dr. Haifa Al Anjari- Assistant Professor, CFD. The costumes were styled and modeled by CFD students as well as local designers from the UAE. Exotic collections made from luxurious fabrics such as Thobes, Daraa, Abaya veils and more were featured as the main attractions of the event.
The event started with students walking the ramp wearing traditional Kuwaiti costumes and jewelry followed by the depiction of the cultural clothing of the Bedouin women.
There was also a rich representation of the Emirati culture with contemporary gowns adorned with Arabic calligraphy by designer Aya Aljawhary.
The audience enjoyed the last sequence featuring a simulation of an Arabic Wedding after which the students performed a celebratory dance.
After the show Her Highness Sheikha Hend Al Qassimi spoke about the importance of preserving the Arabic culture/traditions and complimented the good work done by the students and staff at CFD for the show.
The event concluded with Dr. Monica Gallant-President & CEO, CFD presenting the Vote of Thanks and honoring Sheikha Hend with a flower bouquet.
The fashion show was graced by local designers, influencers, fashion enthusiasts and other prominent guests.
