Sustainable Fashion Challenge By Rosine Sioufi
Early Thursday morning on November 01, 2018 CFD-Dubai saw over 100 students from schools all around the UAE coming into its campus. The energy was so thick and electrifying you could almost touch it. In collaboration with Young Vision, CFD had planned for a one of a kind Fashion Competition.
The competition involved students from grades 11 and 12 designing and creating sustainable clothing. Each team consisted of 2 students and each team was allowed to apply to one of 3 categories: Zero Waste Fashion, Up-Cycling Fashion, and Reconstruction of Waste.
Judges were esteemed individuals from the fashion and apparel industry. Mr. Moussa Daya, Fashion Designer in Si Fashion; Ms. Mitali Vinod, Managing Director of Tahzeeb Boutique; Ms. Meenu Singh, Senior Marketing Manager of Dubai Outlet Mall; Mr. Jitender Advani, Head of Fashion at Red Tag; and Mr. Govind Bharwani, CEO of RME Fashion.
We also had the pleasure of welcoming 6 young ‘People of Determination’ Emiratis who also took part of this challenge. These young females were given the chance to create a design based on reconstruction of waste and one of them got the chance to get a full scholarship at CFD.
